Omicron launches o-vert.com - a "deep" green blog

September 5, 2008

Earlier this year, Omicron formed a green taskforce to catalyze sustainability at the individual and operational levels within our company. We named this taskforce “o·vert”: the word “overt” meaning “open and observable” combines the letter “o” representing Omicron and the word “vert”, meaning “green” in our second official language.

The launch of o·vert has resulted in an outpouring of events and ideas, heightened awareness and a collective desire to bring about change. To take this one step further, o·vert has developed an online forum at to express views on all things green, shed light on green building and construction practices and invite public dialogue about sustainability.

And so o-vert.com was born! As a companion site to Omicron's corporate web presence, o-vert.com is a blog-style format designed to accommodate conversations and content related to sustainability. Incorporating interior and exterior building materials as background elements, the blog design speaks to the design/build industry. However, no topic is too inconsequential and everyone is invited to join in on the dialogue. Everything from supermarket plastic bags to apartment composting and excessive waste is discussed on the site.

The blog categories include:

Green Tips: weekly green tips

Events: local and regional green events

O·vert Initiatives: o·vert events, activities and initiatives

Green Practice: anything and everything regarding professional practice and/or life practice in sustainability

Resources: useful links, book reviews, LEED info, etc.

Deep Green Thoughts: the lighter side of o·vert - a spoof of SNL's Deep Green Thoughts by Jack Handey, kooky anecdotes, cartoons, etc.

Sustainable practices are constantly evolving - and we hope to impart our experience with all things green on this site. Keep abreast of what we're up to by adding www.o-vert.com to your list of favourites! And remember, we'd love to know your thoughts, so visit the site and share your own experiences!
